PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The following briefly outlines some major projects I have been responsible
for, both IT and other:HIRA Tool
Coordinate, develop and implement a system for internet access at remote locations to deliver a climate change assesment tool. This system builds on opensource LMS and CMS to provide facilitation of Health and Climate Change workshops. Last quarter 2011
EHSRG Projects
Coordinate, develop and implement a set of system for delivery of internet based clinical assesment on various platforms. A small team of developers (4) were engaged on this at one stage. These systems use mobile phones and web databases , or ORACLE apex systems. from Aug 2007 , currently ongoing
Kidznet
Coordinate, develop and implement systems for internet access for children to the internet. Provide systems administration on a diverse TCP/IP network particularly on UNIX servers.
MAS
Documentation and specification for the Acquisition System and Financial System interface for the Pick Library System.
Skeletal Records
The PICK based skeletal records system originated from an approach by the senior Circulation Librarian . I liaised with all of the Circulation Librarians across the state, especially those in Launceston, to create a specification. After approval, I used this specification to design and implement the extensions to the database and the numerous new subroutines needed. After further consultations and fine tuning, the system was made live. It was very well received, and was later cited as one example of the major advantage of inhouse development.
LIBNET
24 Hour access system for internet browsing built in 1991/2. This was built under UNIX and involved coordinating a number of IT and Library staff to provide content for the system I wrote.
Complaints Database
I subcontracted a Notes Programmer to code the specification of this system. This involved close liaison with several levels of ANM staff, IT and Sales and the subcontractor. I dotted the I's and crossed the T's to prepare the system for trial.
NT Rollout
The total budget for this was approximately $250,000 which included servers, network installation and clients. I was responsible for scoping, purchasing, installing and configuring 5 servers and numerous clients.
ERL
A 40 Gigabyte database server system which required coordination by me of the University Library staff, Database Administrator, the Unix administrator, Sun Computers and Silver Platter as the system was in a BETA stage and required extensive tweaking.
Library HELPDESK
I set up, coordinated and managed the University Library helpdesk, supervising two staff directly and liaising with most areas of the Infrastructure and Corporate IT teams of the Information Technology Service.
CD-ROM Network
I rolled out a Novell based CD-Rom server with 42 CD roms coordinating two programmers who built the interface under my supervision. I created the pilot project from which subsequent interfaces were built.
Construction
Project Managed the renovation of five inner city houses 1984 till 1992 and the construction of an indoor swimming pool. This included supervision of three employees at times, and the arrangement for subcontracting. The total value of the projects approached a million dollars.
Surveying
Managed teams of three in 1982 in Darwin, and on the west coast of Tasmania. Both of these are demanding environments.
Emergency Services Experience
Worked as a fire officer for Forestry commission. Engineer and Officer Cadet for the Army Reserve.
